The enterprise AI conversation has moved decisively from chat interfaces to what the industry now calls 'agentic orchestration': persistent, task-oriented agents that carry out multi-step work and coordinate with one another. Vendors are redesigning tools and development methods specifically for autonomous systems rather than for people typing prompts.
A chatbot answers a question and forgets it. An agent holds a goal, remembers context, uses tools and reports back, which is a harder engineering problem involving memory, permissions and monitoring.
What it means: the useful question is no longer 'which chatbot is smartest' but 'which system can be trusted to finish a job'. For a business, value comes from delegating a whole task, not from a cleverer conversation, and that is where attention and budgets are moving.
