Snap unveiled a new generation of its Specs smart glasses in mid-September, part of a renewed industry push to make wearable displays that people will actually keep on. Smart glasses have had false starts for a decade, but improvements in weight, battery life and on-device AI have revived interest across several makers.
Glasses that can see what the wearer sees and overlay information are a natural home for assistant-style AI, which is much of why the category is heating up again.
What it means: hands-free, camera-equipped wearables could reshape field work, logistics and retail if they become comfortable enough for a full shift. It is still early, but the combination of lighter hardware and capable on-device AI is what could finally move smart glasses from novelty to tool.
