Qualcomm opened Snapdragon Summit 2026 in Maui on 22 September with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a higher-clocked Gen 6 Pro, its next flagship platforms for premium phones. The company put on-device AI and improved graphics at the centre of the pitch, and named Xiaomi, iQOO and OnePlus among the brands whose upcoming phones will use the chips.
The theme this year is running more AI work directly on the handset rather than sending everything to a data centre. That lowers latency, keeps data on the device, and reduces cloud cost for anything that can run locally.
What it means: the phone in a customer's pocket is quietly becoming capable of running assistant-style features without a server. For a small business, that is the difference between an app that needs an expensive backend and one that does useful work on the device it already runs on.
